PENTOMYCIN (INJECTION)

Composition:

Each 1 ml contains:
Procaine benzylpeniciilin ……… 200 mg
Dihydrostreptomycin …………… 200 mg
(As dihydrostreptomycin sulphate)

Indications:

For the treatment of infections caused by Gram +ve & Gram –Ve bacteria such as:

In large animals:
- Respiratory infections - Urinary tract infections - Suppurative conditions - Exudatiive epidermitis - Mastitis - Strangles - Ovine foot rot - Metritis - Black leg - Puerperal fever - Arthritis - Synovitis - Erysipelas - Tetanus - Lesteriosis - Leptospiriosis - Anthrax - Brucellosis - Actinomycosis - Bacillary haemoglobinurea.
- Control of secondary bacterial invadors in diseases of primarily bacterial origin.

In poultry:
- Acute form of Fowel Cholera - Immediately after debeaking - Coryza - Clostridial infections - Spirochetosis.
- Ulcerative and/ or necrotic enteritis.
- After vaccination with Newcastle or Pox vaccine.
- Arthritis in layers caused by Staphylococci & Streptococci.

Dosage and administration:

The recommended dose is 4 ml per 100 kg bodyweight;
i.e. 8 mg procaine penicillin and 10 mg dihydrostreptomycin sulphate per kg.
The dose should be given once daily for up to 3 consecutive days.
For intramuscular administration only.
- Cattle: 4.0 ml / 100 kg
- Calf: 2.0 ml / 50 kg
- Sheep: 1.0 ml / 25 kg
- Lamb: 0.4 ml / 10 kg
The maximum dose volume recommended at any one site for Cattle is 20 ml.
Administer alternately on the left side and the right side.

Withdrawal time:

Cattle:
Milk: 72 hours.
Meat: 21 days.
Sheep:
Milk: Not to be used in lactating ewes producing milk for human consumption.
Meat: 21 days.

Storage instructions:

Store in a refrigerator (2°C to 8°C).

Packing:

50 ml, 100 ml and 250 ml.
