Indications |
||
Albendazole is an anthelmintic agent which is used in the prevention and treatment of infestations of the following in ruminants: Round worms in both the respiratory and digestive tracts: Haemounchus, Ostertagia, Trichostrongylus, Nematodirus, Chabertia, Oesphagostomum and Dictyocaulus filaria. Tape worms: Moniezia. Liver flukes: fasciola hepatica, fasciola gigantica and dicrocoelium dendriticum. |

Oral route by a drench gun. Cattle: Nematodes and tape worms: 7.5 mg Albendazole / kg b.wt. (eq. to 3 ml of the product / 10 kg b.w.t) Liver flukes: 10 mg Albendazole / kg b.wt. (eq. to 4 ml of the product / 10 kg b.w.t) Sheep, Goats: Nematodes and Tape worms: 5 mg Albendazole / kg b.wt. (eq. to 2 ml of the product / 10 kg b.w.t) Liver flukes: 7.5 mg Albendazole / kg b.wt. (eq. to 3 ml of the product / 10 kg b.w.t) |

Withdrawal Period |
||
Meat shouldn't be consumed during treatment and after 10 days (for sheep and goat) and 14 days (for cattle). |

Contraindications |
||
The drug is not used for pregnant and lactating animals. |
||
Side effects |
||
Albendazole has been associated with embryotoxic and teratogenic effects in rats, rabbits and sheep . when given early in pregnancy doses of 45 mg / kg didn't cause any adverse effects in cattle. The safety index is reported to be 7.5 -20 times the recommended dose. |
